What are age warts?
In medical terms, age warts (verrucae seborrhoicae or seborrheic keratosis) are not warts because there is no viral transmission. Rather, they are benign small nodules on the skin that form especially after reaching the age of 40. Both women and men are affected by this unsightly phenomenon.
How can age warts be recognized?
Age warts can affect an abundance of body regions. The face is particularly affected, but also the entire upper body and the back of the hands. Furthermore, age warts appear on the front arms and legs. In terms of appearance, there are significant differences. Thus, an age wart can have both a smooth and a rough structure and in the form of a sphere or more like a surface. Furthermore, the warts are by no means isolated, but can in the worst case cover entire body areas.
What causes age warts?
Although age warts can be removed, they can hardly be avoided. The reason is that research on this topic is still in its infancy. The trigger is unknown, but could also include a genetic component. Furthermore, it is assumed that strong sunlight favors the formation of age warts. The fact is, however, that age warts – unlike true warts – are not contagious.
How can age warts be removed in Berlin?
For the removal of age warts in Berlin, at least in theory, a number of methods are suitable. In earlier years, scalpels or scraping were the most common methods. There was also the possibility of icing. Before any treatment, a dermatologist must be consulted to confirm the benign nature of the growth and to rule out skin cancer, for example. Ointments, as they are used against real warts, are not effective against age warts.
