What are spider nevi and how are they formed?
As the name suggests, spider nevi look like a spider web that spreads across the skin. Specifically, they are visible microscopic dilations of tiny arterial skin vessels that originate from a red vascular nodule. This central node is a little raised and has a diameter of about half a centimetre. The extensions are thin and pale red. Affected areas include the neck, face, hands or even the chest.
Since spider nevi can also occur in the context of chronic liver problems and some other diseases, an organic examination should take place before removal if necessary. However, it is always possible that the appearance is purely cosmetic and that there is no organic cause. Spider nevi are sometimes considered to accompany puberty or pregnancy and in rare cases disappear on their own, although this can take years. Fortunately, simple and effective methods have existed for a long time to put an end to this arterial vascularisation of the skin.
How can spider nevi be removed?
There are many ways to remove spider nevi. Especially common methods are working with the T-Away method and thus with electric current or with an IPL laser, i.e. working with light and heat. Both methods have individual advantages and are perfectly suited for a residue-free and long-term removal of spider nevi.
Spider nevi removal with the T-Away method
The T-Away method works by using a metal needle. This is placed on the centre of the spider nevus, which is then subjected to a controlled pulse of electricity at a high frequency. The result is a welding together of the veins, which is completely painless. At most, you will feel a minimal pinprick and pigment changes or minimal scars occur only very rarely. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes.
Spider nevi removal with IPL laser
The removal of spider nevi with an IPL laser is very common in Berlin. IPL means Intense Pulsed Light, which converts into heat. A laser beam with a precisely measured wavelength is directed at the spider nevus, whose veins are thereby sclerosed. Basically, this procedure is similar to working with high-frequency current. Side effects are also rarely reported with the IPL laser.
